The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has formed a partnership with the city of Memphis and Shelby County governments for a pilot program to address lead-based paint issues in the community.
“Lead-based poisoning is 100 percent preventable and zero percent irreversible,” Toney said. “Once poisoned it’s in your blood for life. It can cause nervous conditions, slow learning and can go up to causing death. Even today children are poisoned. It’s still a problem as much today.”
